Tristan da Cunha Island has been a British Colony since the 18th century, but it annexed by the British crown at the start of the 19th century via British troops, which was administratively under the British colony of Cape Colony (current South Africa). However, Tristan da Cunha is a volcano island, so the big eruption in 1961 forced to evacuate most of the island population, so over the years until today, the population on the island has remained very small.
